Our St. George eye doctor will work with you, based on your vision needs and your comfort level. For many people, contact lenses are an outstanding choice. There are many benefits to them. For example, you retain more natural vision with contact lenses. They don’t obstruct your peripheral vision. And, in what for some may be a determining factor, they make no alteration to your physical appearance. Unlike eyeglasses, contact lenses don’t cause glare, require no frames, and they don’t fog. Certainly, these are all impressive advantages. Of course, there are some features of contact lenses that might be less attractive. Infections of the cornea can occur because the contacts result in a reduced supply of oxygen to the corneal area. Some people also experience dry, itchy, or red eyes with contact lenses. Furthermore, not everyone feels comfortable putting contact lenses in their eyes. These are all good reasons to consider prescription eyeglasses as an option.

With eyeglasses, you avoid having to replace them often as with contact lenses. Some people find that a pair of good looking frames makes them look fashionable and they prefer this look. Eyeglasses are also low maintenance, not requiring the daily attention that is needed for contact lenses. On the minus side, some find that glasses are uncomfortable, particularly on their nose. They are prone to breakage if dropped and may be problematic when engaging in sporting or athletic activity. In addition, peripheral vision is compromised with eyeglasses. They also are subject to glare, reflection, and fogging up. Knowing the plusses and minuses will make it much easier for our St. George eye doctor and you to decide which choice makes the most sense for your unique needs and desires.
